January 10, 2012 - With every new year comes a “little” tweaking of income taxes and this year is no different. Three weeks ago, we didn’t what was going to happen to our tax rates since Congress had yet to act on the expiring Bush era tax cuts. With the clock winding down, they opted to extend them by two years and so the only change you’ll see is an adjustment for inflation.

The co-chairs of a bipartisan national fiscal commission on November
10 released a draft proposal to reform the tax system by simplifying the
tax code, broadening the tax base, dramatically reducing rates, abolishing
the alternative minimum tax (AMT), cutting tax expenditures and improving
tax compliance. In addition to tax reform, the 18-member National Commission
on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform aims to reach agreement on recommendations
to ensure Social Security solvency for the next 75 years, enact tough
discretionary spending caps and provide $200 billion in domestic and defense
savings in 2015.
NOVEMBER 10, 2011 - MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin
-- Northwestern Mutual Foundation -- the largest corporate giver in the
state of Wisconsin -- is announcing $355,000 in grants to help 14 nonprofits
ensure treatment and innovative therapeutic opportunities for Wisconsinites
with special needs. The grants build upon the Foundation's ongoing efforts
to "Secure Future Generations" by strengthening area nonprofits
that provide support to children with special needs.
November 4, 2011 - The Residential Energy Property Credit (Section 1121) was set to expire at the end of 2010, but was extended for one year by the Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2010. The credit is available for property placed in service in 2011, but with new rules and limitations. tax funding for the school system.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2011 - SIDNEY — The
C.A. Story Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2011 grants.
The Foundation was funded by C.A. Story, a former insurance and real
estate businessman in Sidney.
AUGUST 31, 2011 - The U.S. government on
Wednesday sued to prevent the $39 billion merger of AT&T and T-Mobile
USA, according to Bloomberg News. The U.S. Department filed the suit
in Washington, D.C. arguing the merge would violate federal antitrust
law, Bloomberg said.
AUGUST 19, 2011 - President Obama doesn't
want the "payroll tax holiday" for workers to end. The administration
is calling for an extension of the 2 percent payroll tax break as a way
to reinvigorate the economy.
